Father's Day Fun with Dad

momFather's Day is believed to have originated on July 5, 1908, at a Methodist church in Fairmont, West Virginia.  A year later, Mrs. John B. Dodd, who lived in Washington, decided to plan a celebration in honor of her father.  It was so successful that Mrs. Dodd suggested a formal Father's Day celebration be observed.  Four years later, a bill was presented to make Father's Day an official holiday. It wasn't until 1976 that President Nixon instituted Father's Day as a permanent holiday. Father's Day is a special time to show your father, grandfather, husband, or brother what a wonderful person you think he is! Spending time with family is surely at the top of his wish list. Check out these great gift ideas that Dad will absolutely appreciate!

- A Gift Basket:  Father's Day is the perfect opportunity to gather some of your dad's favorite things and present them to him in a festive Father's Day basket!  After all, he's so busy he doesn't take time to spoil himself, so it's up to you to pamper him!  Get his favorite cologne, candy and maybe a few movie passes.  Add some of his favorite products from the spa such as shaving cream and body scrub. Toss in a couple of baseball tickets for you and Dad and you are on your way to a fun-filled day!!

- Guys' Night Out:  After a day of celebrating Dad with the family, why not get all the important men in his life together for a fun night out?  Start with drinks at his favorite after work spot and move on to dinner at his favorite sports grill so everyone can enjoy the game.  This is sure to be an exciting night for all!

dad spa- A Day at the Spa:  Even Dad likes to unwind and relax.  Give him the gift of relaxation by choosing a package created just for him or give him a spa gift card to create his own experience.  Perhaps your father will enjoy a sculpt massage or a deep tissue massage. What a great way to work out all those kinks and relax those muscles!

- A New Outfit:  Your father may not enjoy shopping for that perfect outfit, so why not do it for him?  Whether it's his favorite pair of jeans, a new suit, or khakis and a Polo for Casual Friday, Dad will appreciate the addition to his wardrobe.  You can even get creative and gear him up with a jersey, hat and shorts emblazoned with his favorite football team for the upcoming season.  He'll be game day ready and anxiously awaiting that first kickoff!

- A New Tool:  Dads love to tinker around in the garage on weekends, finding something that needs to be fixed.  Maybe he likes woodworking or creating the perfect landscape in the front yard. Whatever his interest, your dad can always use an extra tool to complete those menial tasks.  Get him a screwdriver set, power saw, or have the whole family pitch in for that new lawn mower he's wanted for so long.  He'll love that you remembered him on his special day!

Happy Father's Day. Enjoy the day with those you love most!

Here Comes Summer!

June 21st marks the first day of summer.  Barbeques, vacations, and long days at the beach can officially begin!  Summer is a season filled with lots of fun and plenty of activities for everyone.  The kids are out of school and ready to get outside with their friends. Plan now to have an exciting summer that is both fun and safe for the whole family.  Here are some ideas to guarantee a fun, safe summer for all.

Kick off summer with a day at the mall to make sure everyone in the family has the ideal clothing for the hot weather ahead.  Be sure to find loose-fitting, breathable items that will allow you to be outside all day without feeling restricted by clothing.  Tank tops, shorts, and flip flops are a must!

Spend a day at the beach with the family. Nothing says summer like a day at the beach.  You can pack a cooler with lunch and plenty of water. It gets hot out there!  It's important to stay hydrated.  Bring buckets to collect shells and a ball for a stimulating game of beach volleyball.  Most importantly, don't forget the hats and sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays.  Have fun, but stay safe!

Game night is an exceptional way to bring the family together for some summer fun.  Pick a few of your family's favorite board games or card games and head to the back porch during the early evening hours.  Don't forget the lemonade!  It's humid outside.  Spend an hour or two competing and laughing with each other.  By the end of the evening, the kids will be begging to do it again the next night!

summer funAnother innovative idea for summer is to have a family fit day.  Plan meals for the whole family that consist of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and plenty of water.   Engage in activities like family kickball in the back yard, a day at the gym, or simply take a walk around the neighborhood one evening.  Have fun with your family while getting healthy at the same time!

Everyone loves a summertime barbeque!  Invite your friends over for food, fun, and games. Be sure to have lots of water on hand, as well as sunscreen and mosquito repellent.  Ask your guests to bring one dish along with their favorite game to add to the festivities.  Suggest a game of tag football or soccer.  What a great way to bring families and friends together for summertime fun!

While spending time with friends and family is gratifying, it's important to get some "me" time as well. Enjoy a day at the spa to relax and rejuvenate.  Get a facial and a massage and top it off with a mani and pedi.  You deserve a break from the summer fun to get refreshed and renewed by yourself or with a friend.  Sit back, relax, and let your spa consultants pamper you!

Whether it's a day at the beach with the family or a day at the spa with a friend, summer is a time for fun as well as relaxation.  Soak it in and enjoy!

karen hollandMy favorite hydrating foot product is the Overnight Intense Foot Repair Balm. This thick, rich balm repairs and protects severely dry and cracked feet. It contains honey, beeswax and a multivitamin complex that works to seal cuts and cracks to aid in the healing process. In addition, salicylic acid works to soften even the toughest calluses. There are so many sunblocks on the market, which one is the best?

heather rightnourThis is a great question now that summer is almost here.  Traditional sunblocks have so many chemicals that are absorbed into the skin and you have to apply them 20 mins before going into the sun for them to be effective.  I recommend and use a mineral sun protection.  Based on nanotechnology this powerful sun protection is dusted on and patted in.  Mineral sun protection is a lightweight, full spectrum SPF 30 powder that is water resistant. It can be used on men, women, children and people with sensitive skin with out irritating.  I think one of the best things about mineral sun protection is that there is no 20 min wait. You can apply it and it starts to work immediately.  At Jacqueline Morgan Day Spa we have Colorescience, which is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation. Stop by and protect yourself!
